16 This is what the Lord says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
17 I appointed watchmen over you and said,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But you said, ‘We will not listen.’
18 Therefore hear, you nations;
you who are witnesses,
observe what will happen to them.
19 Hear, you earth:
I am bringing disaster on this people,
the fruit of their schemes,
because they have not listened to my words
It is both alarming and to be expected to see the similarities many nations have taken over the course of time that once had God prominently in their culture, laws, and daily practices only to reject them and walk away from them. Not surprisingly the end results were often traumatic and disastrous for the nations and cultures involved. The prophet Jeremiah and his writings give his readers ample warning and also guidance in choosing the right path to health, liberty, and blessings. For many of us we live in a society that highly prizes the latest fad, the popular opinion of the moment, and what the government is willing to entice them with as it pertains to “goods and services.” Not enough people think about or come to the conclusion that there is nothing in life that is “free.” There is a cost involved and there are costs involved as well in the choices we make from what we eat to what we watch online or on the TV. There are also costs involved by being informed and vocal and remaining ignorant and silent, too!
